The End of William Moody
In the early months of 1719, Pirate Moody set sail for Sierra Leone on the African coast. He sent important news to the Pirate Moody about the crew of a sailor named William Snelgrave. As reported by him; Around Cape Verde, a group of Rising Sun sailors was attempting a revolt led by Thomas Cocklyn. Pirate Moody managed to land Cocklyn and 25 other rebels. He refused the rebels' plunder. Moody's remaining crew were angry with his treatment of Cocklyn. In their riot, the crew forced Moody and his 12 supporters into a small boat, leaving them to drift where they were. This drift caused Moody and his friends to disappear. According to some sources, he returned to the Bahamas to end Moody's career. Here he accepted the king to forgive him. But, it is also rumored that King George's offer of forgiveness to the pirates ended in September 1718. If this information is correct, Moody, whose amnesty expired, may have returned to piracy. He likely continued to capture many ships such as the Rising Sun.
