Controls Before Sailing
There are controls that seafarers should do to have a smooth cruise while sailing. What are the controls and what should be considered before going out to sea? Namely;
- Before starting the engine in the first place, it should be checked whether there is any leakage in the gas and fuel systems. Leaks in these two systems cause both oil to escape and various other problems.
- You need to make sure that the main and auxiliary units are actively working.
- Bilgewater levels and coveralls should be checked.
- Belts, electrical cables, water hoses, exhaust, oil filter, and stern glitters must be checked. If there is any wear, it should be replaced.
- Fire extinguishers need to be checked.
- Cabins, engine room, and emergency exits must be checked. It is necessary to make sure that they work smoothly.
- You must make sure that there is enough fuel during the journey. It should be checked whether there is water in the service tank other than fuel.
- After meeting the boat's needs, you need to provide clothes for yourself following different climatic conditions.
- If the boat is small, the items should never be left on the deck.
