IMEAK

IMEAK is the maritime chamber of commerce opened as Istanbul and Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, and Black Sea Regions. Our country has all the conditions for maritime trade in terms of its geographical condition. It was established with the development of the maritime trade sector and the efforts of people who will directly engage with the issues of this sector. There is a need for people who will closely follow the problems of the members of the maritime profession and conduct detailed examinations to develop our maritime trade for the benefit of the country. Some shipowners who are members of the Shipowners and some of the managers of the Shipowners took steps to meet this need.

When was IMEAK established?

TOBB Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of 08 March 1950 No. 5590 Turkey Chambers and Commodity Exchanges have been established based on the of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges Act. While members of the maritime sector generally become members of different Chambers, the need for the maritime industry to be represented as a separate Chamber has emerged in our country. This was allowed suited to receive Turkey Chambers and Stock Exchanges of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges Act on 24 December 1981 and the amendments to the 2567 Law No. allowing the establishment of the Maritime Chamber of Commerce to the existence of the room. Then, with the approval of the Ministry of Commerce dated 04 May 1982 and numbered 14 (630.2/201) 21262, the "Istanbul Chamber of Shipping" started its activities on 26 August 1982.

When it was established, only the Istanbul Chamber of Shipping IMEAK increased its activities. It has continued its existence with various activities. Over time, it has opened branches and representative offices in various port cities in the Black Sea, Marmara, Aegean, and the Mediterranean. Later, it was named Istanbul and Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Black Sea Regions Chamber of Shipping. Since its establishment in 1991, it has continued to serve in the same building.

What are the Purposes of IMEAK?

One of the most important objectives of the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping is to increase the benefits of its members and to meet their common needs. Besides, it is also among the aims of ensuring the development of the profession of this sector. Likewise, it is also among the aims of IMEAK to facilitate professional activities and to establish common rules, and to advise the relevant authorities on maritime issues. At the same time, the disciplined continuation of the maritime profession is very effective in protecting its morality and solidarity.
