Among the tourism types, cruise tourism is among the most contributing to the region. In this type of tourism, which is preferred by the masses of rich people, the tourists landing in the harbor acquire important information in terms of introducing the region and the city. In this way, our country becomes more preferable in terms of tourism.

 Izmir is a city with highly developed ports in terms of geographical location. Naturally occurring Izmir ports can be used for cruise tourism. Cruise ships plan in which countries they will travel to, or at which ports they will stay before they embark on their journey. For the last few years, the Turkish cruise ports have been off course for cruise ships. However, there are signals that this situation will change for the year 2020. Studies for the development of tourism throughout the country have begun to show their results.

In 2010, Izmir port welcomed 378,266 passengers with 159 ships, 493,553 passengers with 262 ships in 2011, 552,764 passengers with 288 ships in 2012, 486,493 passengers with 190 ships in 2014, 257,233 passengers with 124 ships in 2014 and 241,716 passengers in 2015 There were 27,619 passengers with 24 ships in 2016, 9,172 passengers with 18 ships in 2017 and no ships in 2018 and 2019.

However, it is known that a cruise ship will be accommodated in Izmir port in December 2020. For the year 2021, 25 ships have been booked. Also, the Izmir shipyard commander announced that the Izmir shipyard was open to all civilian ships. The shipyard has a large area of 134 thousand square meters with three wharves, skids, and pool. The construction works of a pool of ten thousand tons in this shipyard are continuing. Thus, cruise ships wishing to stay on the Aegean coast will be able to choose Izmir easily.
