Dirk Chivers’s Sea Domination
Famous pirate Chivers accomplished various successes by looting several ships rich in the booty. He set out with his friend, the pirate John Hoar, taking the two East India Company ships. On this voyage, pirate Chivers demanded two ships belonging to the governor of Aden as ransom. When the governor of Aden refused to pay the ransom, he burned both ships that were planned to be used as pirate ships. One of the prisoners of the captured ships was captain Sawbridge. Rumor has it that Sawbridge was complaining constantly. The Pirate Chiver's crew was disturbed by this situation and sewed the man's lips with a sail pin. In November 1696, the famous pirate Chivers set sail to the harbor in Kolkata. Here he captured 4 ships with his crew. The famous pirate demanded money from the governorship to return the ships he seized. The pirate Chivers sent the following message to the governor: "We have not sold our own country, we do not know any country, and we will have no hesitation in killing and destroying if our demands are not fulfilled because we are sure that if we are caught we will be hanged." Ignoring the threat of Chivers, the governor sent 10 Indian ships to the pirate ships. When they sailed into the harbor, the pirate Chivers fled to Saint Mary's Island for repairs and arrived there in the summer of 1697.
New Soldado
Sailing to plunder more ships, pirate Chivers captured a British ship, Sedgwick, in April 1698. Pirate Chivers wanted to include this ship among the famous pirate ships. The captain of the Sedgwick ship was very persuasive and allowed Chivers' crew to hold his ship. Pirate Chivers collaborated with a pirate named Robert Culliford. Together they seized the ship named the Great Mohammed. Chivers took command of the new ship captured and named it the New Soldado. Famous pirate Chivers returned to Saint Mary's Island. When four British warships reached Saint Mary's Island in September 1699, the pirate Chivers sunk the New Soldado in the harbor to close the pass.
