Visible Call Signs
Emergency calls should be made when necessary at sea. However, radio is not always used for this. Instead, visible call signs are sometimes used. These call signs are divided into 3 depending on the use status, day, night or both. These groups are divided into pyrotechnic and non-pyrotechnic forms.
These vehicles, which must be used as call signs, must be visible and easily accessible onboard. Also, the vehicles must be selected according to the Solas rules.
According to the Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs, the vehicles that should be on each boat and which should not be out of date;
• At least 2 parachute firecrackers
• At least 2 pieces of hand sparklers
• 1 handheld smoke lamp or floating
Pyrotechnics Visible Call Signs
This type of visible call signs are the most effective but must be used with caution. Failure to do so could result in serious accidents and injuries. These call signs are as follows;
• 3 sparkler flashlights suitable for day and night use
• 1 red sparkler flashlight, slot or 2 meteor type pistols can be used day and night again.
• 1 orange smoke lamp and 2 floating orange smoke lamps can be used in the daytime, in the night use electric light.
